Returns & Refund Policy
Last updated: 8 May 2026
This Returns & Refund Policy explains your rights and obligations as a customer of EpicRentals (Pty) Ltd (“Epic Rentals”, “we”, “us”, “our”) in respect of rental products supplied through https://epicrentals.co.za. Because Epic Rentals operates a Rent2Buy model, the rules around returns, refunds, and cancellations are different from a normal retail purchase. Please read this policy carefully.
1. Faulty or damaged products on delivery
You must inspect your rental product on delivery and report any defect, fault, or damage in writing to rentals@epicrentals.co.za within 7 calendar days from the date of delivery. Where possible, please attach photographs or video evidence of the issue.
After the 7-day reporting window has lapsed, the product will be deemed to have been received in good working order.
If a defect is reported within the 7-day window:
- We will arrange and pay for collection of the faulty device through our courier partner. You will not be charged any return shipping cost.
- The fault will be assessed by our supplier through Digirent.
- If the defect is confirmed, we will arrange a repair, replacement, or — where neither is reasonably possible — a refund of any rental amount paid for that unit, at our discretion and in line with the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008.
2. What is not covered
The following are not considered manufacturing defects and are not covered under this policy:
- Accidental damage (drops, knocks, falls)
- Cracked or broken screens
- Liquid damage or spills
- Damage caused by misuse, neglect, or unauthorised repair
- Normal wear and tear
- Software issues caused by user-installed applications
If you would like to protect against these risks, we recommend taking out short-term insurance covering portable possessions.
3. Cooling-off rights for online sales
In line with the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act 25 of 2002 (“ECTA”), where applicable to your transaction, you may have a cooling-off period of 7 calendar days from the date your rental application is signed, during which you may cancel the agreement without reason.
The cooling-off right does not apply to all transactions. It does not apply where:
- The product has been used or activated;
- The product was made or customised to your specifications;
- Other statutory exclusions under section 42(2) of ECTA apply.
To exercise this right, you must notify us in writing at rentals@epicrentals.co.za within the 7-day window. The product must be returned in its original packaging, in original condition, with all accessories. Epic Rentals will arrange collection at our cost. Any rental amount paid will be refunded within 30 days, less the direct cost of returning the product where the law permits.
4. Minimum rental term
Every Epic Rentals Rent2Buy agreement has a minimum rental term of 6 months from the start date of the agreement. You cannot cancel the agreement during this minimum period (other than under the cooling-off provisions above or in the case of a confirmed manufacturing defect).
5. Cancellation after the minimum term
After the initial 6-month minimum period, you may cancel your rental agreement at any time by giving 30 days written notice to rentals@epicrentals.co.za.
Notice will be calculated from the date we receive your written cancellation notice. Your final monthly rental will be debited as normal during the notice period.
6. End of rental term — Rent2Buy buyout
Epic Rentals operates on a Rent2Buy model. At the end of your agreed rental term, you settle a final one-month buyout payment, after which full ownership of the product transfers to you. There is no obligation to return the product at the end of the rental term, and no end-of-term collection is arranged.
If you wish to settle your agreement early, please contact us — early settlement amounts are calculated by Digirent on request.
7. No refunds on rental payments already processed
Rental payments are charged in advance for the use of the product over the relevant rental month. Rental payments that have already been processed are not refundable, except where:
- A manufacturing defect is confirmed within the 7-day reporting window; or
- A valid cooling-off cancellation is exercised under ECTA; or
- A refund is required by law.
8. Late or missed payments
If a debit order is returned unpaid, you will be charged interest at 2% above the prime lending rate, plus a R19.90 administration fee for the returned debit. Repeated default may result in early termination of your agreement, repossession of the device, and adverse listing with credit bureaux in line with the National Credit Act 34 of 2005.
9. Returns process — step by step
- Email rentals@epicrentals.co.za with your order number, a description of the issue, and photo or video evidence.
- We will respond within 2 business days with next steps.
- If a return is approved, we arrange courier collection at our cost.
- The device is assessed by our supplier through Digirent.
- We confirm in writing whether a repair, replacement, or refund will follow.
- Where applicable, refunds are processed within 30 days to your original payment method.
10. Your rights under the Consumer Protection Act
Nothing in this policy limits your statutory rights under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008, including the right to safe, good-quality goods, the implied warranty against defects (section 56), and the right to fair, reasonable terms.
